Within the four walls of number Shop 5, 19 Pier Street, Dromana, magic happens every day.
Five women, all very strong women in their own right, work alongside each other, very rarely butting heads, to create what is “Peninsula Art Supplies and Textile Artistry”.
Come in and see us one day. Scratch beneath the surface just a little and you never know what you might find.
Cath is the proprietor of the shop. She doesn’t work in the shop on a set day but usually makes an appearance most days throughout the week. Cath loves textiles and is a fabulous knitter and sewer. Her current embroidery work is stunning – look out for her knots, they are very meditative you know!
On Mondays and Fridays you’ll find Samm (me). I love lots of art and craft styles but my main focus is collection and narrative based. I draw on family history to inspire and create pieces of mixed media jewellery that tell a story. I also love to teach the many mixed media techniques that I’ve learnt along my journey into becoming an artist.
Robyn works on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She is a seamstress and knitting extraordinaire and has great doll making experience too. Rob has come through the other side of a recent illness with determination and gusto and my vision of Robyn now is always one of a very proud and strong woman.
Virginia and Pamela share Thursdays and Saturday mornings. They alternate weeks.
Virginia brings a very dry sense of humour, and a methodical and organised, business like aspect to the shop. She is a magnificent patchworker / quilter and is a wizz with knitting needles. Virginia is my go to person when I need a hand with my knitting.
Pamela is our beloved “artist in residence”. Textile artist and wonderwoman! She’s a magician with a sewing machine set on free motion amongst many other magic tricks! Another who has recently beaten an illness with grace. Inspired by so much, Pamela always draws a huge crowd when her workshops are scheduled.
So that’s us. A little community within four walls of a shop. Please come and see us if you live locally and keep an eye on this blog for updates of workshops and sales. Or, if you are not close enough to visit, stay tuned for activities to join in on via our Yahoo Group.
Could you please send me workshop details for the second half of this year and put me on an email list (if you have one) as I am moving down to the Peninsular later in year.
